Steven Gerrard: Jurgen Klopp still needs to get this right at Liverpool FC
Steven Gerrard reckons that Jurgen Klopp is still trying to discover his best defensive line-up at Liverpool FC
Steven Gerrard believes that Jurgen Klopp is still trying to work out his best defensive set-up at Liverpool FC.
The German manager has been tinkering with his back four and his goalkeeping situation in recent weeks as he tries to devise his best starting line-up.
Klopp opted to start £75m January signing Virgil van Dijk on the bench for Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard feels that Klopp is still trying to find out which set-up suits his team best, and also said that he expects to see the Reds bring in some more defensive signings in the summer.
Speaking on BT Sport on Tuesday night, former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard said: “I still think he’s trying to find it [Klopp’s preferred back four].
“He’s obviously brought Van Dijk in as a big-money signing and I’m sure he’ll try and make more signings moving forwards.
“I think he’s still trying to find his back back five.”
Liverpool FC are now preparing for their crunch home clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and secure Champions League qualification for the second season running under the German manager.
Liverpool FC, who have not yet won the Premier League title, will take on FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.
