Paul Merson states his prediction for Tottenham v Arsenal
Paul Merson is expecting to see Arsenal and Tottenham play out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal and Tottenham to play out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their Premier League clash at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime.
Arsenal head into the game looking for a victory to get their top-four hopes back on track as Arsene Wenger looks to guide the Gunners to Champions League qualification.
The north London side missed out on a place in the Champions League this season after they ended up in fifth place last term, and Wenger will be keen for his team to make amends this time around.
Arsenal have it all to do in the race for a Champions League spot, however, with Wenger’s men currently in sixth place in the Premier League table.
They know that a victory over Spurs on Saturday would move them to within just one point of their bitter local rivals.
However, former Arsenal star Merson is tipping both of the north London sides to play out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Wembley this weekend.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “This is a bit of a home game for Arsenal due to their Wembley record. They’ve lost six away games this season, but have got one of the best records at Wembley in recent years.
“Spurs’ Wembley record is better than it was, but Arsenal have the ammunition to hurt them.
“If Wenger turned round and said: ‘Aubameyang, Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Ramsey, you four go and get on with it’, and the other six keep it tight then I would give them a great chance.
“But the two Arsenal full-backs will be playing as wingers after five minutes and you know they’ll be all over the shop defensively.”
Arsenal head into the game having had a week off to prepare following their 5-1 thrashing of Everton at The Emirates in the Premier League last weekend, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his first goal for his new club.
