Arsene Wenger has suggested that Mesut Ozil will be fit for Arsenal’s Europa League showdown with AC Milan at The Emirates on Thursday night.

The Germany playmaker appeared to suffer a knock to his ankle as Arsenal claimed a 3-0 win over Watford at The Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

However, the Arsenal manager moved to play down the seriousness of the problem as the Gunners now turn their attentions towards their crunch showdown with AC Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Wenger did admit that defender Shkodran Mustafi is a doubt for Thursday’s game after he suffered a knock in the clash with the Hornets.

Asked about Ozil’s ankle at his post-match news conference on Saturday, Wenger said: “It looks alright.

“We have one problem and that’s Mustafi, who had to come off. It’s a groin problem. We don’t know how bad. They told me they have to check tomorrow.”

Arsenal head into their clash with AC Milan on the back of their impressive 2-0 victory over the Italian side at the San Siro in the first leg last week.

The Gunners are in sixth place in the Premier League table and know that their best hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League is to win the Europa League this term.

Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
