Goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray put the home side 2-0 up at the Amex Stadium but Arsenal did manage to pull a goal back before half-time when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished from close range.
However, Arsenal could not conjure an equaliser in the second half as the north London side slumped to their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.
The result left Wenger’s men in sixth place in the Premier League table and looking unlikely to finish in the top four this term.
Wenger’s future is set to become an even more intense source of speculation in the coming days.
And England legend Lineker seems to think that it would be wise for the Gunners boss to consider stepping down himself.
Lineker wrote on Twitter after the final whistle: “If I were Arsene Wenger, I might consider firing Arsene Wenger.”
Next up for Arsenal is the first leg of their Europa League last 16 clash against AC Milan in Italy on Thursday night.
The north London side could still qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the competition this term.
