The 26-year-old’s future at The Emirates has been a source of speculation in recent weeks because his current deal with the Gunners is due to expire at the end of the season.
Arsenal are keen to get the midfielder to commit his future to the north London club but Wilshere is yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners.
Wenger has made it clear that he wants the England international to stay at The Emirates after he broke into the first team this season with a string of impressive performances.
Wilshere has been captaining the Gunners in recent games and has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up for Wenger’s men.
And Wenger has admitted that he is desperate to see the midfielder commit his long-term future to the Gunners by signing a new deal.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “I can only reassure him that I want him to stay.
“We make him a proposal, after that you have to accept Jack is at an age where he will have offers from somewhere else.
“Personally I put my weight in for him to stay and push him to stay.
“I think he’s an Arsenal man. AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso said the other day he has the technique of a Spanish player and the character of an English player.
“I think it’s well judged. That’s why you want him to stay at the club.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Stoke City at The Emirates on Easter Sunday.
The north London side are in sixth place in the Premier League table, and it looks as though they will not finish in the top four this term.
