The Gunners have endured a forgettable week after Arsenal lost 3-0 to Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Arsenal struggled to compete with Pep Guardiola’s side and produced a tame performance as goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva sealed a comfortable win.
The north London outfit welcomed Guardiola’s side to the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Thursday night to present Arsenal with an immediate chance to exact some revenge.
The Gunners were unable to restore some pride at the Emirates Stadium following successive 3-0 loss to Manchester City after conceding three times in the first half.
Arsenal have lost their last three away Premier League games following defeats at Bournemouth, Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping the Gunners to lose a fourth successive away game at Brighton on Sunday.
“I think Brighton win this game,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“It’s the Bournemouth game all over again in my opinion.
“Brighton are playing well at home and Arsenal have gone. I really worry for Arsenal at the moment and the way they are playing I have to back Brighton for victory. If they can pick up the win it would be an unbelievable result for Hughton and his team.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and a long way behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window.
