Marcos Alonso has backed Antonio Conte to continue to do an excellent job at Chelsea FC.

The Italian head coach has come under pressure in recent months following the west London side’s disappointing run of results in the Premier League.

Indeed, the defending champions have lost four of their last six Premier League games to drop to fifth place in the table.

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after the Blues finished seven points clear of their closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte’s side lost 4-1 to FC Barcelona over two legs of the Champions League round of 16 clash between the two European heavyweights.

The Blues can still finish the season with some silverware after the west London side were 2-1 extra-time winners against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Chelsea FC will take on Southampton for a place in the FA Cup final after the Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the final at Wembley last term.

Alonso issued his backing for Conte ahead of the final months of the 2017-18 Premier League season.

“In England, after winning the Premier League, it is normal to have a difficult year, especially with the level that Manchester City are maintaining throughout the season,” Alonso told Marca.

“Now we have an important end of the year, to qualify for the Champions League and fight for the FA Cup.”We’re looking forward to it.”

Chelsea FC signed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
