Antonio Conte has revealed that he substituted Willian during Chelsea FC’s FA Cup victory over Leicester because the Brazilian was suffering with fatigue.

Willian has been in superb form for the west London side this season and he has been one of the Blues’ most consistent players despite their struggles to find top form.

The 29-year-old provided the assist for Alvaro Morata’s opener at the King Power Stadium before half-time as the west London side secured their spot in the semi-finals thanks to a 2-1 win after extra-time.

Jamie Vardy equalised for the hosts to force the tie into extra time, before Pedro Rodriguez netted the all important winner in the first half of the extra period.

Willian has netted 13 goals and made seven assists in all competitions for Conte’s side this season and he has been rightly earning plenty of praise for his performances.

And Conte has admitted that he had no choice but to sub Willian during extra-time because he was struggling with fatigue.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “Willian was very tired.

“Willi played a fantastic game with and without the ball, and he is in fantastic physical condition.”

Chelsea FC now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their return to action against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge after the international break on 1 April.
