Chelsea FC have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is claiming that the west London side have identified the 29-year-old Belgian defender as a potential target this summer as the Blues look to strengthen their squad in the off-season.

The same report says that Chelsea FC are ready to make an official move to try and sign the defender this summer as the look to strengthen their rearguard options.

The article also claims that the futures of the likes of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea FC are in doubt beyond this summer.

Alderweireld has two years left on his current Tottenham contract and the north London side reportedly do not want to give in to his demands for a new deal worth £150,000 a week.

The story also credits both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain with an interest in signing Alderweireld in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Chelsea FC are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and break back into the top four before the season is out.

The Blues will take on Southampton for a place in the FA Cup final next month.
