Ray Wilkins believes it is vital Chelsea FC start both Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante to dominate the Tottenham midfield at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The defending Premier League champions are in fifth place in the table and face the real possibility of missing out on a Champions League place next term.

Chelsea FC are five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham ahead of the London derby at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The Blues can reduce Tottenham’s lead to two points if Antonio Conte’s side are able to secure successive victories over Spurs.

Chelsea FC were 2-1 winners against Mauricio Pochettino’s men in their second Premier League fixture at Wembley back in August.

However, the title holders have struggled throughout the 2017-18 season and have lost four of their last six Premier League games.

Former Chelsea FC midfielder Wilkins believes Conte needs to start Fabregas and Kante to ensure the Blues are able to win the midfield battle.

“We have got to be on the front foot,” Wilkins told Sky Sports. “We have to make sure Tottenham suffer. Therefore, I would play Kante and Fabregas in midfield.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after the Blues finished seven points ahead of Tottenham.

The Blues signed England international Ross Barkley, AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri and Chelsea FC striker Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
