The Merseyside outfit dropped down to fourth place in the table after Tottenham Hotspur eased to 4-1 victory over Bournemouth last Sunday.
Liverpool FC are five points adrift of Manchester United with eight games to go in the Premier League campaign.
The Reds have the chance to reduce Manchester United’s lead to two points if Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Watford at Anfield on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s men will be in FA Cup action this weekend when the Red Devils host Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
Can, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, is optimistic that Liverpool FC can still overhaul Manchester United and finish in runners up spot behind Manchester City.
“We wanted more,” Can told Liverpool FC’s website.
The Germany international added: “It was very important for second place as well. That’s why it feels [even] more disappointing.
“But we still have the chance to be second in the table, we have a lot of matches. Now we have to see what happens from game to game – we’ll try to win ours and see where we are at the end of the season.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in Klopp’s first full season in charge last term.
