Jermaine Jenas: How 26-year-old Liverpool FC star is allowing Mohamed Salah to flourish
The Spurs legend believes Roberto Firmino has allowed Liverpool FC summer signing Mohamed Salah to flourish in the Reds team
Jermaine Jenas has credited Roberto Firmino with allowing Mohamed Salah to flourish in the Liverpool FC team.
The Brazil international has been a key figure in the Liverpool FC starting XI this term under Jurgen Klopp.
Firmino has been used in a striker role to act as the focal point of the Liverpool FC team despite not being an out-and-out centre-forward.
The 26-year-old has netted 21 times and has made 10 assists in 37 games in all competitions this term.
Liverpool FC summer signing Salah has netted 32 goals in all competitions to hit the ground running at the Anfield outfit following his summer move.
The African forward has built an impressive partnership with Firmino in the Liverpool FC team to unlock Premier League defences.
Former Spurs midfielder Jenas believes Firmino deserves credit for allowing Salah to shine in the Liverpool FC team.
“Firmino is so adapting. A lot of centre-forwards say, ‘this is my space, and this is how I operate’,” Jenas told BT Sport.
“But he’s happy to drop a little bit deeper and play little assists into Salah and I think having that mix of players really wanting to help each other out is helping Mohamed Salah flourish.”
Firmino moved to Liverpool FC in a £29m deal from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the 2015 summer transfer window under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds moved into second place in the Premier League table ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Liverpool FC are looking to secure a top-four finish in successive seasons.
