The 20-year-old was forced off after just 10 minutes of the game in Amsterdam after picking up an ankle problem and will now be assessed by the Three Lions’ medical team.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, England boss Southgate said: “We need to have a closer look.
“We didn’t like the way he landed, he was knocked in the air. We don’t know at the moment, we need to check that.”
Liverpool FC fans will be hoping that Gomez’s injury is not too serious and that he will be able to play a role in helping the Reds enjoy a strong end to the season.
England take on Italy in their next friendly clash on Tuesday night and it remains to be seen whether Gomez will be fit for that game or not.
Gomez has been in good form for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC team so far this season and has made 21 appearances in the Premier League for the Reds.
He has also made five appearances in the Champions League for the Merseyside outfit to help them reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Manchester City next month.
Liverpool FC are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to try and seal a top-four finish for next season.
