The Reds eased to a 2-0 victory over the Magpies in front of their home fans to move back above Manchester United and into second place in the Premier League table.
Mohamed Salah gave the home side the lead in the 40th minute with a close-range finish, before Sadio Mane made it 2-0 to the Reds shortly after half-time.
The Merseyside outfit have been at their free-flowing best in recent weeks and they have been attracting plenty of praise for their entertaining attacking displays.
And it seems that England legend Lineker was particularly impressed by the Reds’ football in the build-up to Mane’s goal on Saturday evening, with Roberto Firmino setting up the striker.
Lineker wrote on Twitter after Mane made it 2-0: “That’s a divine bit of football from Liverpool for Mane’s goal.”
Liverpool FC will now switch their focus back towards Champions League affairs and their home clash against FC Porto in the last 16 on Tuesday night.
The Reds have all but booked their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition after a 5-0 win over the Portuguese side last month.
Liverpool FC will also have one eye on their crunch clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League next weekend.
