The Reds brought in the Egypt international in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Salah struggled to make an impression during an eight-month stint at Chelsea FC in 2014 before he move to Serie A.
The African forward, though, hit the ground running at the Anfield outfit to become the 13th Liverpool FC player to score 30 goals in a season.
Salah scored in his fifth successive Premier League game in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield last weekend.
The 25-year-old is level on goals with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane after the pair netted 24 times in the current campaign.
Former Liverpool FC defender Thompson admitted that he didn’t envisage Salah being such a huge hit at the 18-time English champions.
“Salah is probably the one who has surprised everybody and has been absolutely astonishing, better than we could have imagined, with 24 Premier League goals and 32 in all competitions,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but stand a good chance at finishing in second place in the table this term.
