Liverpool FC have been handed a possible boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer after the Germany international’s agent cancelled talks with Schalke 04.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool FC.

The Reds’ German head coach Jurgen Klopp has been touted with an interest in his compatriot since taking over the reins at Anfield back in 2015.

Thus far a transfer has failed to materialise but Meyer is set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Schalke 04’s efforts to resolve Meyer’s future have failed so far after the club’s president Clemnes Tonnies revealed the forward’s agent cancelled their meeting.

“I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice,” Tonnies told Bild.

“If someone doesn’t want to talk to me, I cannot change that.”

Meyer has failed to score a goal or make an assist in 23 appearances in the Bundesliga this season amid intense speculation surrounding his future.

The Schalke 04 attacker has netted one goal in four games for the German national team.

The Liverpool FC target has netted 22 goals in 191 appearances in all competitions over the past six seasons at Schalke 04.

The Reds signed Cameroon defender Joel Matip in a free transfer from Schalke 04 in the 2016 summer transfer window.
