There has been plenty of speculation about the number one spot at Anfield this season, with neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius impressing in the early stages of the campaign.
However, Karius has been holding his own in recent weeks and seems to have won the trust of Jurgen Klopp, with the German having started in goal for the Reds consistently of late.
There is still bound to be plenty of speculation about the goalkeeping position at Liverpool FC in the coming weeks and months.
And Nicol feels that the Reds should go out and try to sign another quality shot-stopper this summer as Klopp looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol said: “Liverpool should go and see if they can get a number one or find someone who is on a level with Karius.
“Mignolet isn’t at Karius’ level. He is clearly the number two. He is waiting to see if he can get a game in the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, Karius will be expecting to start in goal for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a trip to Crystal Palace.
The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to secure a top four finish under Klopp once again this season.
