Liverpool FC should make a bid to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak this summer, according to Reds legend Steve McMahon.

The Merseyside outfit have made some decent progress in the 2017-18 Premier League campaign in Jurgen Klopp’s second full season in charge at Anfield.

Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind Manchester United in the race to finish as runners up behind Manchester City.

Only the Premier League leaders have scored more times than Liverpool FC’s 73 goals in the current top-flight campaign.

Liverpool FC were 5-0 winners against FC Porto over two legs in the Champions League round of 16 earlier this month.

Klopp’s side will now take on Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.

Virgil van Dijk’s club record move to Liverpool FC has helped to improve the Reds defence, resulting in six clean sheets in the last nine games in all competitions.

Klopp has stuck with Loris Karius in goal in recent months and the Liverpool FC number one has made improvements to his game.

However, Reds legend McMahon wants to see Liverpool FC sign Oblak from Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

“Liverpool need a world class goalkeeper, 100 per cent,” McMahon told the Liverpool Echo.

“Jan Oblak at Atletico Madrid is fantastic. He would be great. Maybe £50million would get him. That kind of signing could be the difference when it comes to winning trophies.”

Oblak has made 36 appearances in all competitions this term.
