Craig Bellamy has claimed that Liverpool FC should be flattered by talk of Real Madrid’s reported interest in Mohamed Salah.

The Reds signed the Egypt international in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Salah’s move was met with some skepiticism given his underwhelming eight-month stint at Chelsea FC in 2014.

However, the Liverpool FC summer signing hit the ground running with a goal on his debut in 3-3 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road on the opening day of the campaign.

Salah netted four times in the return fixture at Anfield last weekend as Liverpool FC eased to a commanding 5-0 win over the Hornets.

The African forward has netted 28 times in 30 games in the Premier League this term to prompt talk of interest from Real Madrid.

Liverpool FC earned a reputation for selling their best players to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid over the past decade, including Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.

However, former Reds striker Bellamy believes Liverpool FC should be flattered by talk of Real Madrid interest in Salah.

“If I was Liverpool, I’d take it as a compliment, why wouldn’t top clubs be interested?” Bellamy told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“I’d be worried if they weren’t. Real Madrid and Barcelona, who could be prepared to pay big money, will surely want to see another year from Salah.

“There are other players out there that have proved themselves over two or three years who might be closer to going to those types of clubs. Those types of clubs are the pinnacle of football – if they come in for you, you want to be a part of that. They are on another planet, but I don’t see it happening this summer.”

Salah has netted 36 goals in all competitions this season to help Liverpool FC reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
