Loris Karius has played down the chances of Liverpool FC beating Manchester City to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

The Reds have been pitted against their Premier League rivals as they both compete for a spot in the semi-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.

Liverpool FC are preparing to welcome Manchester City to Anfield in the first leg of their quarter-final clash against the Citizens on Wednesday night as they look to try and take the initiative in the tie.

The Merseyside outfit claimed an impressive 4-3 win over the Citizens when the two teams last met in the Premier League earlier this year.

Karius has been keeping Simon Mignolet out of the team at Anfield in recent games but he has played down the chances of the Reds being able to beat the Citizens over two legs.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Karius said: “In the Champions League you look to go to the final and possibly win the competition but first, there is Man City in the way.

“It is not going to be easy but for everyone watching, it is going to be an exciting game.”

Before next week’s crunch European clash, Liverpool FC will take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and secure a top four finish in the top flight for the second season running.
