Manchester United haven’t progressed under Jose Mourinho, Charlie Nicholas has claimed.

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Liverpool FC.

Manchester United are a staggering 16 points adrift of runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Manchester side have signed eight players since Mourinho took over the reins from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in May 2016.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League last term but won the Europa League and the League Cup.

Mourinho’s men have made progress in the Premier Leaguer this term but the Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League at round of 16.

Former Arsenal star Nicholas believes Manchester United have made much progress under Mourinho.

“The answer this season is a big no,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“How they sit in the Premier League is much improved, but they’ve spent an absolute fortune to do that.

“They won two trophies last season and they’ll be lucky to get one this year.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson secured his 13th top-flight crown.

The Red Devils are in the FA Cup semi-finals but Manchester United will have to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
