Michael Carrick has heaped praise on Scott McTominay for his impressive performances in the Manchester United team.

The Scottish starlet has been asked to help out Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park in recent months.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has utilised McTominay on a regular basis over the past few weeks.

The 21-year-old has impressed in the heart of the Manchester United team and has even managed to keep Paul Pogba out of the team.

The holding midfielder impressed in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford in the Premier League last weekend.

McTominay has racked up eight appearances in the Premier League so far this season and has been a regular fixture since the start of 2018.

Carrick, who is set to call time on his Manchester United career at the end of the campaign, singled out McTominay for special praise.

“He is fantastic,” Carrick told his media conference on Tuesday night.

“He is the next one and we keep producing them as a club, which is incredible, in this day and age when there is so much scrutiny and money and people are clamouring to sign this player and that player.

“He is a great lad, he is a humble lad, he takes everything in which gives him a great chance of improving all the time and he has done that.

“I think it is quite refreshing to look at Scott and see how he deals with it. He goes about his business, he comes in, he is always doing extra in training, he’s desperate to do well and he’s always looking for those little things to improve on.

“He’s still got some way to go to fully establish himself. It’s a big thing to play for this club, but so far he’s on a great track, he’s given himself the best possible chance to fulfil that.”

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of third-placed Tottenham Hotspur with eight games to play.

The Red Devils signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal in the January transfer window to improve Klopp’s defence.

Manchester United have won the Premier League title since 2013.
