Dietmar Hamann believes Jose Mourinho will adopt a conservative approach to Manchester United’s home clash against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils came from 2-0 down to rescue a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night following Nemanja Matic’s last-gasp winner.

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Liverpool FC in the race to finish as runners-up behind leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils left Anfield with a 0-0 draw in their last two visits under Mourinho after the Portuguese coach adopted a conservative approach to the Premier League trips.

Liverpool FC are two points adrift of Manchester United despite only Manchester City scoring more goals than Jurgen Klopp’s side this term.

Egypt international Mohamed Salah has scored in his last five Premier League games ahead of his first visit to Old Trafford as a Liverpool FC player.

Former Liverpool FC midfielder Hamann believes Mourinho will look to contain Klopp’s men at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

“They do sit back, they like to play deep and play on the counter attack,” Hamann told Tag Heuer.

“And I think Mourinho has always been like this. He doesn’t concede many goals or his teams don’t concede many goals and I think patience will be key.”

Liverpool FC are looking to secure a fourth-placed finish in successive Premier League seasons under Klopp.

Manchester United ended up in sixth spot in the table last term but won the Europa League and the League Cup.
