The Belgian striker has been in much improved form in recent weeks and he notched up the assist for Marcus Rashford’s opener on Saturday afternoon against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford.
Lukaku was also named as the man of the match as he scored one and set up another in Manchester United’s recent 2-1 win over Chelsea FC at Old Trafford.
And former Liverpool FC star Carragher feels that Lukaku has gone some way towards answering his critics, who has claimed that he hadn’t been performing in the big games for the Red Devils.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Carragher said: “He’s always been questioned in the big games about getting goals.
“I think the Chelsea game and today, he’s been outstanding in both games. He wasn’t involved so much in the second half but his involvement in the two goals today, and the ones he created and scored against Chelsea.
“He had to prove he could deliver in big games. Up until these last few weeks he hadn’t, even though he had plenty of goals.
“But I think that will go a long way in terms of pushing Lukaku to the forefront in terms of how they think a Manchester United centre-forward should perform.”
Manchester United won the game to move five points clear of Liverpool FC in the Premier League table as the race for the top-four places hots up.
Manchester United will take on Sevilla in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night in the return leg of their Champions League tie against the Spanish side.
