Jose Mourinho has declared that he wants his Manchester United team to finish in second place in the Premier League table this season.

The Red Devils came from two goals down to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace on Monday night to move back into second place in the Premier League table above Liverpool FC.

Goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in the second half helped the Red Devils secure a thrilling victory and move themselves back closer to leaders Manchester City.

Next up for Jose Mourinho’s men is their Premier League showdown with Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

And Red Devils boss Mourinho has told his Manchester United team that their focus must now be on securing a second-placed finish in the Premier League table.

Speaking at his post-match news conference after the game on Monday, Mourinho said: “We want to finish second, but it is huge pressure for us to finish in the top four. Now we have a little pillow.

“Even a point would have been good for us tonight after being 2-0 behind.”

Manchester United are aiming to at least finish in the top four this season after they ended up in sixth place in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club last term.

The Red Devils did secure their place in the Champions League for this season, though, by winning the Europa League last term.
