Manchester United will have to rethink their summer transfer plans after handing January signing Alexis Sanchez a huge contract, according to a report in England.

The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Red Devils’ summer spending could be affected by the addition of Sanchez back in January.

The same article states that Sanchez is thought to be on a contract worth around £350,000 a week, which adds up to an estimated £23m a year at Old Trafford.

Manchester United managed to see off competition from Premier League leaders Manchester City in the January transfer window following months of speculation surrounding Sanchez.

The concern for Manchester United is that summer targets will demand parity with Sanchez if world-class players are to consider a move to Old Trafford.

Sanchez has made a frustrating start to his Manchester United career following a disappointing return of one goal in 11 appearances in all competitions so far.

The Chile international struggled to have an influence on Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16.

Manchester United booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals against Tottenham Hotspur following a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.
