The Red Devils forward has struggled to impress under Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese head coach’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May 2016.
The Dutchman was responsible for signing Martial in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window when he became the world’s most expensive teenager.
Martial was an instant hit at Old Trafford after the French starlet scored in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over bitter rivals Liverpool FC on his Premier League debut.
The 22-year-old finished his first season at Manchester United with a respectable return of 17 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
Martial, though, has largely been used as an impact substitute under Mourinho to prompt transfer speculation that he could leave at the end of the season.
But Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe was full of praise for Martial after France’s 3-1 win over Russia.
I’m happy, the most important thing was to win,” Mbappe is quoted as saying.
“It’s always good to beat records, but I don’t go looking for that.
“I played with players it’s easy to link up with; it’s simple to play with Ousmane and Anthony. We have to work on our understanding, but I think it was a good start.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Liverpool FC.
Martial has scored 11 times in 40 appearances in the current campaign in all competitions.
Manchester United will take on Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday.
