The Daily Star is reporting that the Red Devils are now ahead of their bitter local rivals as the race for the Brazilian midfielder’s signature begins to hot up ahead of the summer transfer window.
The same report says that Manchester United’s main competition for Fred’s signature now comes from Paris Saint-Germain rather than their Premier League rivals.
The story says that Manchester City are still keeping tabs on the 25-year-old but that he is no longer a priority target for Pep Guardiola’s side.
And Manchester United are reportedly leading the chase for the midfielder as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad in the summer transfer window.
The story says that Fred is now one of the Red Devils’ top targets as Mourinho looks to try and assemble a squad capable of challenging Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League next season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United bounced back to winning ways on Saturday by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday night.
