The Daily Mirror, as quoted by Metro, is claiming that Jose Mourinho sees the France international as a top defensive target this summer as he looks to try and bolster his squad this summer.
Mourinho worked with Varane during his time in charge at Real Madrid and according to the same story, the defender is the “dream” solution to Manchester United’s central defensive problems.
According to the same report, Mourinho is “desperate” to add another quality centre-half to his squad this summer to partner Eric Bailly for next season.
The same story says that Manchester United are prepared to offer around £40m for Varane this summer, but Real Madrid value the defender at closer to £50m.
Manchester United are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window gives Mourinho the chance to add to his squad.
The Portuguese coach will be aiming to try and assemble a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season after Manchester City’s dominance this term.
