Manchester United are considering using Luke Shaw as bait in a potential swap deal to sign FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, according to a report in Spain.

Don Balon, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United are ready to offer FC Barcelona their out of favour full-back Shaw in return for France defender Umtiti.

The same article states that Umtiti is a standstill in contract negotiations with the La Liga leaders and the Frenchman could be signed in a £50m deal thanks to a clause in his current deal.

According to the same story, Manchester United would still have to pay a small transfer fee for Umtiti if Shaw did agree to a potential move to the Catalan side.

The England international was linked with a move to FC Barcelona over the past couple of weeks after Mourinho’s latest criticism of the 22-year-old defender.

The Manchester United manager slammed Shaw’s performance in a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-final after the full-back was withdrawn at half-time.

Shaw has struggled to convince Mourinho of his ability to perform over the past 20 months since the Portuguese head coach replaced Louis van Gaal.
