Charlie Nicholas is backing Manchester United to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by claiming a 2-0 victory over Sevilla at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils head into the game fresh from having secured a solid 2-1 victory over Liverpool FC in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The two sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg in Spain last month to leave the last 16 tie finely poised ahead of the return leg this week.

However, former Arsenal star Nicholas seems to feel that the Red Devils are not going to have any problems against the Spanish side and he is tipping them to seal a 2-0 victory in front of their home fans to book their place in the last eight.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “This might not be as big for the fans, but this is as big as Saturday in terms of it being huge for them to be in Champions League quarter-finals.

“I am expecting United to go through, mainly because this is the poorest Sevilla side in years.

“Even if Paul Pogba was fit I don’t think he would get in the United team, as he has suffered from the confusion that Alexis Sanchez’s arrival has brought to the team.

“Antony Martial has suffered as well but it is their biggest young talent, Marcus Rashford, who has suffered the most. He came in for a big game and did the business, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back on the bench.

“I’d back Rashford for another double but I don’t know whether he’s going to play. I don’t know whether Sanchez deserves to be in the line-up but if he is then it certainly shouldn’t be at Rashford’s expense.”

Manchester United’s win over Liverpool FC lifted them up into second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and finish as close to champions elect Manchester City.

The Red Devils are playing in the Champions League this season after having qualified for the competition thanks to their Europa League triumph under Jose Mourinho last term.
