Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to beat Sevilla and reach it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils head into the game after having played out a goalless draw against the Spanish side in the first leg in Spain last month.

Manchester United warmed up for the crunch European clash by claiming a 2-1 victory over Liverpool FC at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho is aiming to steer his side through to the last eight of Europe’s elite club competition as he bids to lead them to glory in Uefa competition for the second season running after their Europa League triumph last term.

Former Liverpool FC star Owen is expecting a low-scoring game at Old Trafford but is still expecting to see the Red Devils make it through.

Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “United have only lost one of their last nine home Champions League games (Real Madrid back in 2013) against Spanish opposition and I feel they will do enough to make it through to the quarterfinals although their lack of an away goal is a concern.

“I was surprised to hear that United have only scored seven times in their last 15 Champions League games against La Liga sides.

“It should be noted that Sevilla have never won a Champions League game in England, although they did get a fortunate 2-2 draw at Anfield earlier in the campaign.

“Only Barcelona (2) have conceded fewer goals than United (3) in the competition so far this season and I do not expect to see many goals at Old Trafford.”

Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to at least better their sixth-placed finish from last term.

The Red Devils will also bid to try and reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
