McTominay has been earning plenty of praise for his strong performances for Manchester United this season after having been given a chance to impress in the first team at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho.
The 21-year-old has made 18 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions this season and has been earning lots of new admirers for his solid form.
McTominay will be hoping to hold down a regular place in the first team at Manchester United in the coming weeks and months as he bids to force his way into Mourinho’s side.
And the young midfielder has now revealed that former Manchester United star Fletcher was one of the players he looked up to when he was coming through the ranks at Old Trafford.
McTominay is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “There are many players I have learned from but Darren was certainly one.
“He trained with us a couple of times when I was younger and I did look to him as a real role model and a leader at the football club.
“It’s the same with Michael Carrick and people like that who’ve really helped me improve.”
The midfielder will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Red Devils are aiming to finish as highly as possible in the Premier League table and they are currently in second place behind Manchester City.
