Alderweireld is in a contract standoff with the north London side as the centre-half refuses to sign a new deal with little over 12 months before he becomes a free agent.
The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top defenders over the past couple of seasons alongside Vertonghen at Tottenham.
Unsurprisingly, Alderweireld has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea FC or Manchester United ahead of the 2018 summer transfer window.
Reports in the British media suggest that Tottenham are prepared to sell Alderweireld to ensure a return on the proven defender.
Vertonghen and Alderweireld could line up in the centre of Belgium’s defence for their World Cup clash against England in Russia this summer.
However, the Tottenham star isn’t worried about the transfer speculation surrounding his defensive partner.
“Whenever we play we understand each other,” Vertonghen is quoted as saying by Metro.
“When I left for Tottenham, Toby left for Atletico (Madrid) and Southampton but we found each other quite quick after that, so no stress.
“We’ve been playing together for a long time and we know how to play together but I don’t want to speak about this because it might sound disrespectful to whoever is playing next to me or next to Toby in other situations.”
Alderweireld established himself as a top Premier League defender at Southampton before he moved to Tottenham in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Spurs are in fourth place in the Premier League table and five points ahead of Chelsea FC in the race to secure a top-four spot.
