Antonio Conte rates Tiemoue Bakayoko’s display in Chelsea FC’s win over Southampton
Antonio Conte was pleased with the impacts of Chelsea FC's substitutes in their 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday
Antonio Conte praised Tiemoue Bakayoko for an “impressive” performance after he came off the bench in Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Southampton in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The 23-year-old midfielder was a second half substitute at Wembley as his substitute appearance helped the Blues claim victory over the Saints and secure their place in the final.
It has been something of a mixed season for Bakayoko following his transfer to Chelsea FC from Monaco in the summer window last year.
The midfielder has struggled to produce consistent performances for Conte’s men since his move to the west London club last summer.
He has scored three goals and made three assists in all competitions for Conte’s side so far this term.
However, the Chelsea FC boss was delighted by Bakayoko’s impact on Sunday after he came on to play for the final 26 minutes in Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Southampton.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday, Conte praised Bakayoko as well as Morata and Pedro for their performances.
Conte said: “I knew we had to play against three central defenders who are very strong physically, so I decided to start with Olivier, but when Morata came on his impact was impressive, in the same way as Pedro and Bakayoko’s impact was.”
Chelsea FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to Swansea City in the top flight next Saturday evening.
The Blues are currently fifth in the table.
