The Spain international is a player who will need no introduction to Arsenal supporters following his three seasons at their London rivals Chelsea FC.
Costa secured a return to Atletico from the Blues last summer after he netted 20 times to help the west London side win the title with two games to spare under Antontio Conte last term.
The controversial Spanish forward netted three times in six games against Arsenal in all competitions, including a strike on his final Blues appearance in a 2-1 loss to the Gunners in the FA Cup final last term.
However, Costa is set to miss the Europa League semi-finals due to injury to provide Arsenal with a huge boost ahead of the visit of Atletico on Thursday night.
Former Chelsea FC star Lampard believes Costa’s absence is a huge positive for the Gunners ahead of their Europa League clash.
“Diego Costa has been a massive influence at Atletico since he rejoined from Chelsea. So it is a huge plus for Arsenal that it looks like he won’t be fit to face them in the first leg,” Lampard told the Evening Standard.
“Arsenal have historically struggled with powerful strikers who have an all-round game like Costa.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table but can still qualify for the Champions League next term if the Gunners win the Europa League.
