Craig Bellamy names manager Arsenal need to appoint
The former Liverpool FC striker believes Diego Simeone would be perfect for Arsenal
Craig Bellamy believes Diego Simeone is the manager that Arsenal need to appoint as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
The Gunners boss is set to stand at the end of the 2017-18 season following 22 years at the north London outfit.
Arsenal have regressed under the 68-year-old boss under the past six or seven seasons.
Indeed, the Gunners haven’t reached the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010 and even missed out on a top-four spot last term.
Arsenal haven’t got their hands on the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Wenger’s side famously finished the campaign unbeaten.
The north London club have been linked with Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, former FC Barcelona boss Luis Enrique and ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel.
Arsenal have been reportedly considering turning to a former club legend to replace Wenger, such as Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Mikel Arteta.
However, former Liverpool FC striker Bellamy believes Simeone would be the ideal replacement for Wenger.
“It is a shame Simeone has ruled himself out. He is what Arsenal need,” Bellamy told Sky Sports.
Simeone’s side secured a 1-1 draw at Arsenal in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night courtesy of Antoine Griezmann’s equaliser.
Arsenal signed Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window.
