Thierry Henry has challenged the Arsenal squad to finish the Arsene Wenger era with a trophy ahead of their Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid next week.

The Gunners boss announced his intention to retire at the end of the 2017-18 season on Friday morning following 22 years in charge of the north London side.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 and the Gunners have regressed in recent seasons to heap pressure on Wenger.

The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot.

Arsenal are in sixth place in the current Premier League campaign but a mere two points ahead of Burnley.

The Gunners will take on La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals, with a place in the Champions League up for grabs for the competition’s winner.

Wenger hasn’t won a European trophy during his long Arsenal reign following a 2-1 loss to FC Barcelona in the Champions League final in 2006 after a penalty shootout defeat by Turkish side Galatasaray in the Uefa Cup final in 2000.

Former Arsenal striker Henry is hoping that Wenger can end his time at the north London club with some silverware.

“His legacy is untouchable. Managers, fans from other teams – (they talk about) how Arsene changed Arsenal,” Henry told Sky Sports.

“I am happy that now we can all talk about his legacy. Let’s not forget we still have to win the Europa league. It would be an amazing achievement.”
