Arsenal reassured 47-year-old would be success as Arsene Wenger replacement
Luis Garcia backs Luis Enrique to be a hit at Arsenal if the Gunners appoint the former FC Barcelona boss
Luis Garcia has issued his backing for Luis Enrique to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.
The Spanish head coach is the leading contender to take over the reins at the north London club at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Wenger confirmed that he will stand down at the end of the current campaign last week following a disappointing season.
The 47-year-old won three La Liga titles, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey twice during his spell in charge of FC Barcelona.
Enrique would be tasked with overhauling the Gunners following their steady regression under Wenger over the past decade or so.
Former FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC winger Garcia believes his compatriot would be an excellent appointment for the Gunners.
“I think Luis Enrique is one of those managers that you know will be successful wherever he goes,” Garcia told BetStars.
“I met him when we played together at Barcelona, he’s a winner who gives 120% every single game and training session. He always gives his best and he would fit really well with Arsenal’s philosophy.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and a long way adrift of the Champions League qualification spots.
Enrique would have a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal in the shape of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil.
However, the ex-Barcelona coach would have to rebuild the Arsenal defence which has struggled in recent seasons under Wenger.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
