Paul Merson believes it will be a miracle if Luis Enrique leads Arsenal to the Premier League title next season.

The former Spain international is one of the favourites to take over the Gunners job from Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.

Enrique hasn’t returned to management since standing down as FC Barcelona boss following the 2016-17 campaign.

The 47-year-old led FC Barcelona to three La Liga crowns, three Copa del Rey trophies and the Champions League during his reign.

Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and a long way behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners could still qualify for the Champions League next term if Arsenal win the Europa League crown this season.

Former Arsenal star Merson warned Enrique’s appointment would prompt wholesale changes at the north London outfit.

“If it is Enrique. It is a whole change. He will do unbelievably well to win the league next year,” Merson told Sky Sports.

Arsenal signed Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window.

The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Arsenal finished the campaign unbeaten.
