Martin Keown has admitted that Arsenal have been “shocking” on the road in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners slumped to a 2-1 loss to promoted side Newcastle United at St Jame’ Park last weekend.

Arsenal have only managed to win three of their 16 away games in the Premier League this term.

The north London side are in sixth place in the Premier League table but 14 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners’ away form appears to have cost them a place in the Premier League table this season.

However, Arsene Wenger’s side can still qualify for the Champions League if the Gunners win the Europa League.

Wenger announced his intention to stand down as Arsenal manager after 22 seasons at the end of the season.

Former Arsenal star Keown believes the Gunners need to improve their performances on the road under Wenger.

“You cannot hide from Arsenal’s away results,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “They have been shocking.

“Arsenal have not won a Premier League away game since December.

“At home, Arsenal’s brilliant football gets them results but to be successful on the road you need to dig deep, pull together and play with a steeliness.

“When they play away, there seems to be something missing.”

Arsenal face the daunting prospect of a clash against La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-final next week.

The Gunners signed Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window.
