Thierry Henry sends message to Arsenal supporters about Arsene Wenger
The Arsenal legend urges the Gunners supporters to rally behind Arsene Wenger
Thierry Henry has urged the Arsenal supporters to get behind Arsene Wenger for the final months of the season after the Gunners manager announced his intention to stand down at the end of the campaign.
Wenger is set to call time on his 22-year reign at the north London club after leading Arsenal to three Premier League titles and a record seven FA Cups since his appointment in 1996.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League crown since 2003-04 and the Gunners haven’t made it past the Champions League round of 16 since 2010.
The north London outfit have regressed in the Premier League in recent seasons after Arsenal finished in fifth place and outside the Champions League qualificaton spots for the first time under Wenger.
The Gunners could finish as low as seventh in the current campaign with Burnley hot on the heels of Arsenal with four Premier League games left to play.
Arsenal can still qualify for the Champions League if the Gunners win the Europa League but Wenger’s men will have to get past La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.
Former Gunners striker Henry urged the Arsenal fans to rally behind Wenger to secure a fitting end to his decorated reign.
“It is a sad day for me to see the big man leaving the club, and happy one in a way that people give him the exit he deserves,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“Recently it has been hard for him and the club. Starting from Sunday, against West Ham, I hope people go to the game and not only see him in one of his last games at the Emirates and to support the team, but also to give him a good exit. I did not expect it, he will have his reasons, it is a weird one for me.”
