Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will play no part in selecting the next Arsenal manager after confirming his decision to step down at the end of the season.

The Frenchman revealed on Friday that this campaign would be his last in charge of the north London side having been at the club since 1996.

Arsenal will now begin their search for the man to take over from Wenger, with speculation rife as to who the north London club will turn to for their next manager.

However, the 68-year-old has insisted that he will have no say in helping Arsenal select the man to take over from him at The Emirates.

Asked if he will play a part in helping to select Arsenal’s new manager, Wenger told a news conference on Sunday: “No. It’s not my [decision].

“I always feel that the most important thing in a football club is that everybody does his job.

“My job is to take care of the team, of the results and of the finances in the transfers. That’s what I did. My job is not to select the next manager.”

Wenger was speaking after Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The north London side will now turn their attentions towards their crunch Europa League semi-final showdown against Atletico Madrid at The Emirates on Thursday night.

Winning the Europa League is their best hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, with Arsenal currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and looking destined to miss out on a top four finish once again.
