Watford have beaten the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to the signature of Stevenage starlet Ben Wilmot, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Hornets have agreed a deal worth more than £1.5m to sign the 18-year-old, who has also been attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea FC.

The same report claims that Wilmot was taken out of the League Two club’s team at the weekend as the two parties agreed terms on his move to Vicarage Road.

The story says that the deal should be finalised this week before his official transfer to Watford in the summer window.

There had been reports that Arsenal were keen on signing the highly-rated English defender in recent days.

However, it would appear that Watford have all but secured the signature of the teenager, if the latest reports are to be believed.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for their Europa League trip to Russia to take on CSKA Moscow in the return leg of their quarter-final clash on Thursday night.

Arsenal, who are sixth in the Premier League, won the first leg 4-1 at The Emirates last week to take a big step towards reaching the semi-finals.
