Arsenal are confident that they would be able to beat Chelsea FC to the appointment of Luis Enrique as their new manager this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is claiming that both of the London clubs are interested in appointing the former FC Barcelona manager as their new boss in the summer.
Arsene Wenger announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the season last week, leaving the Gunners searching for a new manager ahead of next season.
Chelsea FC are also widely tipped to part company with Antonio Conte at the end of the Italian’s second campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.
According to the same story, Arsenal’s head of football relations Raul Sanllehi has a link with Enrique from their days working together at FC Barcelona and the Gunners feel that this would give them the edge in any negotiations.
The same story also says that Enrique is Arsenal’s “most likely” option for their new manager as they look to put themselves in a position to challenge for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for the first leg of their crunch Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.
