The striker has been more of a regular fixture in the first team at The Emirates in recent weeks after having struggled with a string of injuries.
Welbeck ended up playing a key role in helping Arsenal to book their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League last week when he scored a crucial away goal in the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with CSKA Moscow.
The 27-year-old has netted 10 goals and made two assists in all competitions for Wenger’s men so far this season and he will be hoping to be a regular fixture in the first team between now and the end of the season.
And Wenger has opened up about how he has been impressed with Welbeck’s fine form for Arsenal in recent months.
Speaking at a news conference after Thursday’s draw with CSKA Moscow, Wenger said: “We know how good he is and I said that many times.
“I’m happy for him. He surprises some people but he has power, he has pace, he is finishing well now and I believe he is a team player as well.
“He likes to help the team and for a striker, that’s an outstanding quality as well.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are in sixth place in the table and look as if they are going to miss out on a top-four finish for the second season running under Wenger.
