Arsenal could be set to turn to former captain Mikel Arteta as their new manager, according to reports in the British media.

Sky Sports is reporting that Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis could be set to recommend that the Gunners appoint their former captain as their new manager.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new manager after Arsene Wenger confirmed that he will be stepping down as boss at the end of the season after 22 years in charge.

Arteta is currently part of the coaching staff at Manchester City, but he is being touted as a possible candidate to take over from Wenger at The Emirates.

According to the same report, however, Arsenal’s new head of football operations, Raul Sanllehi, feels that former FC Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is the right man to lead the Gunners forward.

Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann and Schalke’s Domenico Tedesco are also potential candidates to take over at The Emirates, according to the same report.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final showdown against Atletico Madrid at The Emirates on Thursday night.

The Gunners warmed up for the game with a 4-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League last weekend.
