Arsenal to go head-to-head with Liverpool FC for German goalkeeper – report
Arsenal are interested in a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, according to a report
Arsenal are ready to compete with Atletico Madrid, Liverpool FC and Napoli for Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno, according to a report in Germany.
Bild, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Gunners are looking at the possibility of a potential swoop to sign the Bayer Leverkusen shot stopper.
The same article reveals that interested suitors would be able to activate Leno’s £17.5m contract release clause to sign the Germany international in a cut-price deal.
According to the same story, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Serie A outfit Napoli are both keeping tabs on the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
The German media outlet suggest that Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is keen to sign Leno to ensure Arsenal have a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.
The 6ft 3ins goalkeeper has earned six caps for the Germany national team but has struggled to break into Joachim Low’s team ahead of Manuel Neuer.
Liverpool FC are thought to be interested in a potential swoop to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star despite Loris Karius’ impressive performances in recent months.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and 14 points ahead of Arsenal in the ace to secure a Champions League spot.
