Arsenal are pondering a move to sign defender Panagiotis Retsos from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the north London side are interested in the 19-year-old Greek defender as they look to try and shore up their rearguard ahead of next season.

The teenager only moved to the German club from Athens giants Olympiacos last summer but he could be on the move again this year if the Gunners decide to step up their interest.

According to the same story, Arsenal’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has made signing a young defender one of the north London club’s priorities this summer.

Retsos has made three assists in 19 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen since his move to the club last summer.

Arsenal are likely to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as the Gunners look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

The north London side, who finished in fifth place last term, are currently outside the top four as they look set to have to settle for a place outside of the Champions League spots once again this term.
