Arsenal want to sign 29-year-old Greek defender to improve back four – report
Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to a report in England
Arsenal are planning to raid Borussia Dortmund for the second time this year as the Gunners look to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that Arsenal are interested in a potential deal to sign the experienced 29-year-old.
The same article states that Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of Papastathopoulos since his spells at AC Milan, Werder Bremen and Dortmund.
According to the Italian paper, the Greece international wants to leave the Bundesliga giants at the end of the current campaign.
Papastathopoulos has scored two goals in 25 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, while he has netted one goal in nine games in the Champions League and the Europa League.
Arsenal have struggled defensively in the Premier League this season after Arsene Wenger’s men conceded 41 times in 31 games in the English top flight this term.
The Gunners signed Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a club record £56m deal on transfer deadline day in January.
Arsenal were 4-1 winners against Russian side CSKA Moscow in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night.
